With home becoming a refuge for many affected by the pandemic or for those required to stay home, we may find our homes cluttered with harmful cleaning solutions and empty bottles. Making your own cleansers and detergents from home is the perfect way to save some money and to become more independent. This cleanser may be used on any surface (although as always you should test a small inconspicuous area prior to full-surface use) while remaining easy on your wallet and perfect for beginners of DIY.
You will need:
- Borax (sodium tetraborate also known as sodium borate - may be found in either the laundry or household cleaning section of your favorite store, or online) A great multi-purpose cleaner that whitens, deodorizes, disinfects, and removes stains.
- Vinegar (white) - Works great to remove stains, soap residue, and disinfect surfaces.
- Essential Oil(s) of Choice (some great oils meant to deodorize and kill bacteria include orange, lemon, or lavender essential oils - we are partial to lavender)
- An empty and clean spray bottle (this is the perfect time to re-purpose those old spray bottles)
Combine equal amounts of white vinegar and hot water with one-to-three tablespoons of borax and five-to-ten drops of your choice of essential oils (depending on your preference of scent strength) into a spray bottle. Shake bottle until borax is dissolved and each time before use. Spray on surface needing a little TLC and wipe clean with a cloth.
And there you have it! A simple DIY cleanser that is cheap, can be made a dozen times over with the few ingredients needed, and is effective.
