2019 has come and gone, with much relief, while 2020 is here to stay. The start of a new year can bring in new hopes, aspirations, and the idea that THIS is the year that everything is going to change. Let's be honest, have any of us been able to keep any of our annual resolutions? Even the mundane act of drinking water can elude us.
We get so caught up in the idea of "New Year, New Me" that we often forget to take an actual step forward. The start of the New Year is no doubt, invigorating. But this year, the only resolution on my list is to be more compassionate to myself, others, and to volunteer in my community.
With the world as it is Today, is seems as though the only way to survive is to go wherever which way the tide is going. After all, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right? Casting our wrath wherever it'll stick is commonplace and although we are changing our outwardly habits, we remain stagnant in the way we treat eachother.
The world seems to be reaching a tipping point, a train barreling towards the end of its tracks, doom feels near. Quarreling with eachother, placing blame, and getting caught up in the heat of the moment hasn't changed a single thing - permanently at least.
Humans are driven by their insatiable desires with nothing to fill the void. When will we understand that what we want, isn't necessarily what we need? Perhaps a little bit of kindness could make all the difference. But until then, taking the time to simply breathe in the moment will be enough.
